How confidential is it with what I share in the sessions?

To ensure the quality of therapy, I will discuss our sessions with my clinical supervisor(s), as part of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy's (BACP) requirements.

In exceptional circumstances, where I believe there is a risk of harm to you/others, there is a safeguarding issue, or a legal obligation; I have a duty to inform the relevant authorities/parties. On these occasions, I would endeavour to discuss this with you first. I follow national guidelines in order to protect children and vulnerable adults.

If you would like to discuss how your information is handled, please feel free to get in touch via email at lidia@lidialee.com (please also refer to the privacy policy on this website).

Therapy
Why should I have therapy? How will it help me?

The goal of therapy is to help you understand yourself more deeply and to help your personal growth. I've spent over a decade gaining a deeper understanding of human behavior, how the brain works, and the dynamics of social relationships.

A lot happens outside our conscious awareness. And it's VERY difficult to "see" ourselves from the outside, which is why it's so important to seek the help of a therapist.

We often have trouble understanding the "WHY" of some of our behaviors (we know we're angry, annoyed, hurt ... but we don't know why).

I'll help you to understand the "WHY" so that you can become more self-aware. This is important because we can't change something we're not aware of. As we discover these parts, we can then look at them together and consider what you would like to do with this newly discovered knowledge of yourself.

Something is not right but I don’t even know what’s wrong. How will you help me?

Sometimes, life is puzzling. Everything seems to be going well, yet it feels off inside you.

The goal of therapy is to help you understand yourself more deeply and to help your personal growth. We will go on a journey together in a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental environment. You share your stories with me and we look at your experiences together.

On this journey, we will uncover different parts of yourself through reflection, identification, and exploration to deepen your self-understanding.

As therapy progresses, we will also challenge deeply rooted ideas and make changes appropriate for your personal growth.

How long will it take to feel better?

This depends on your situation, expectations and goals. I work with clients short-term, long-term, and open-ended on their self-discovery and personal growth journeys.

I do not offer a quick fix. Usually, you will start noticing positive shifts after between 4 and 8 weekly sessions. It commonly takes 3 to 6 months or more of committed work together to fully explore presenting and underlying issues and gain practical strategies. Your motivation for a meaningful change and insight play a key role in our progress.

Why do I hesitate to call you?

It is comfortable to stay close to the familiar. When uncertainty arises, it is normal to worry or feel anxious, which is part of our evolution for survival and safety. This can however also make changes and transitions difficult.

I hope that my website will help answer many "unknowns".

However, if you still have concerns about calling me, you can write to me using the contact page or via email or text message.

Therapy is frowned upon by some people. I can assure you that things have come a long way since Freud, and you won't be spending the session lying on a sofa!

The people who come to see me are like you and me. They have gathered their courage to ask for help with all the things they don't know.

Therapy offers a choice between continuing to unconsciously reproduce the same patterns and remain stuck in our habits, or stepping back and trying to understand ourselves better.

That's how you change.

Crisis
What if I am in a crisis?

If you are in a crisis or struggle to keep yourself safe, please contact your local emergency services. For example, 999, A&E at your closest hospital, your local crisis service team, and your GP.

There are some organisations providing helplines and online chat, such as Samaritans (116 123), SANE (0300 304 7000), SHOUT (85258), and CALM in the UK. Please contact the relevant services for up-to-date information.

I understand you may feel desperate for help at times. Therapy is not designed to be a crisis service, but I will support you as much as possible. If you would like to reschedule your session, please get in touch and I will respond at the earliest possible time within my working hours.

Therapist
What's your character?

My clients describe me as calm, positive, and trustworthy.

Why did you choose to become a therapist?

Simply, I love people. Everyone carries their unique stories and it is my pleasure to be part of people’s journeys.

It is my passion to understand you, establish a connection, and develop trust to help your transformation and transcendence.

Supporting you through moments of uncertainty, anxiety, and discomfort to regain your balance and inner peace is very rewarding for me.

I understand your struggles during difficult times. Walking with you on your journey and supporting you through these challenging times are one of my favourite things to do.

That’s why I became a therapist and set up my private practice to support you.
